_________ Смольянинов Р.В. Ранний неолит Верхнего Дона ________ lowercase oval prick and a comb stamp; site Karamyshevo 19 no tably contains hybrid dishes Srednedon and Karamyshev cultures. 11 radiocarbon dates were received for this stage, which fit into the last quarter o f the VI through to the first ha lf o f the V mil lennium BC: Vasilievsky Cordon 5 - BP 5870+80 (4940-4530 BC) (Ki-15194); BP 5910±90 (4940-4530 BC) (K i-15625); settlement Vasilievsky Cordon 3 - BP 5868+120 (5036-4458 BC) (Spb-1638); settlement Vasilievsky Cordon 7 - BP 6010+80 (5080-4710 BC) (K i-15624); BP 5930+80 (5000-4590 BC) (Ki-15192); settlement Karamyshevo 9 - BP 5790±100 (4850-4450 BC) (Ki-12160); BP 5630+100 (4710-4325 BC) (Ki-12161); BP 5860+80 (4860-4520 BC) (Ki-15193); BP 5647±120 (4781-4318 BC) (Spb-2260), BP 5638±110 (4727-4318 BC) (Spb-2261); BP 5635+110 (4373-3960 BC) (Spb-2262). The main peculiarity o f the ceramic complex o f the Kara myshev culture, in comparison with other Early Neolithic materials o f the Upper Don, is the glossing o f the surface o f the dishes and the significant prevalence o f oval-shaped prick ornamentation. Ac cording to a number o f signs, such as the presence o f unornament ed pottery in the collection, the glossing o f its surface, pearl orna mentation, corrugation o f corollas, drilled holes, dashed lines, and the presence o f the hanging triangles motif, as well as the similari ty o f topographic conditions for the location o f the sites with the materials in question, the ceramics o f Karamyshev culture are closest to that o f the Elshanskaya culture. At the same time, it should be recognized that it is impossible to fully correlate these ceramics with Elshanskaya culture complexes, since there are no plain-stamped ornaments on Karamyshev ceramics, and the drawn pattern, vessel profiling, and drilled holes have been found only in isolated cases. Changes in the ornamentation o f ceramic dishes at the begin ning o f the second stage o f the Karamyshev culture were the result o f an influx o f people from the Sredncvolzhskaya culture into the territory we are studying. Because this ceramic complex possesses several similar features, including technological ones, I.N. Vasi lyeva came to the conclusion that the origin o f the pottery technol ogy o f Karamyshev culture was associated with the Lower Don hearth o f early pottery. This allowed her to establish a certain con tinuity and proximity o f the pottery traditions o f the early Neolithic Karamyshev culture with the Elshanskaya culture traditions o f the 186
